On Sunday, February 6th, CAPA-HC Cares hosted its first virtual Lunar New Year celebration in the cloud. The seniors and student volunteers of the Cares program presented a joyful, artistic, and interactive celebration for over 100 attendees. The celebration exhibited the reach, bonding, and impact of our Cares program.
2022 is the Year of Tiger, which symbolizes strength, resilience, and braveness. Over a dozen traditional Chinese culture shows featured bamboo clappers, paper-cutting, chorus, Peking-opera, calligraphy, painting, fencing art, embroidery, lantern riddles, and more. Some shows were performed by multiple generations or multiple families. The celebration started with video clips highlighting last year’s volunteer activities. Our thanks to students Bill Wang, Jasmine Dong, and Rebecca Wu for serving as the hosts and translator.
Other attendees included State Senator Katie Hester, Howard County Chief Innovation Officer Angela Cabellon, and Howard County BOE members Dr. Chao Wu and Dr. Yun Lu. The guests commended CAPA-HC Cares for their service to the senior community amid the COVID-19 pandemic and extended cordial Lunar New Year greetings. CAPA-HC President Ming Du announced the opening of the celebration.
